(she/her)

PRACTICE owner, CLINICAL supervisor, & CLINICIAN

None of us have all the answers. Let’s normalize being imperfect and asking for help.

I care about culture and inclusivity. My experiences as a Black woman inspired me to open a practice where difference is appreciated and there is no shame in healing from the oppression, marginalization, and injustice brought on by the inequity and injustice in the world. When I say difference, I mean anything that society has deemed a flaw worthy of acknowledging to diminish your self-worth. Maybe it is your skin color, learning difference, gender, body type, hair, accent, sexual orientation or affection, occupation, or your financial situation. At TheraCare Las Colinas all of you is welcome.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. I received my Master of Education in Counseling and Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In addition to supervising and practicing, I am a university professor at SMU. I primarily teach clinical skills courses, diversity, and group therapy. I have over a decade of clinical experience in emergency rooms, shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, and psychiatric hospitals. I specialize in assisting overwhelmed and stressed professionals in achieving a work/life balance. My primary focus is maintaining a small caseload of clients and supporting LPC-Associates in receiving the care and support they need as new professionals. Outside of work, I like beaches, tennis, and a good walk in my reflexology sandals. I have fleeting thoughts of getting a puppy and going skydiving.

I know it is impossible to say all the right things that every client needs to hear in a text box. Allow me to get to know you, and better understand your needs and background, then I can explain how we can help. We can talk, establish a relationship, set expectations and goals collaboratively, and then walk toward your goals together. The uniquenesses and beautiful complexities that make you who you are will help determine our treatment plan. You are special. I want to hear your story. All of it. I want you to get to know me too. I want you to hear the empathy in my tone of voice when I speak and see the care and concern on my face. I want you to ask me the questions you need to ask to make an informed decision about your mental health care.
